Resveratrol is a phytoalexin and is produced naturally by plants to protect against bacteria and fungi. It is also produced by chemical synthesis, and is generally derived from Japanese knotweed. Additionally it is primarily found in wine, and the skin of red grapes. There has been much research recently on this antioxidant revealing that it could offset the various diseases, fight cancer, and mimic the effects of caloric restriction. This is why some believe it to be the reason for the French Paradox; an odd occurrence in which the French have fewer heart diseases but enjoy high-fat diets. Many believe the reason for this could be due to the resveratrol they receive from drinking red wine. Currently it is going under a lot of exciting research, for example Doctor Sinclair of Sirtis Pharmaceuticals is currently trying to prepare an extract of resveratrol that aims at help controlling blood glucose in humans in people with diabetes. Additionally he states that he and half of his office take resveratrol daily for the benefits. Furthermore, there is a lot of other research being done on his benefits for the liver and also cardiovascular health. This antioxidant has an abundant amount of benefits, which is why it could be so beneficial to supplement with it. Overall resveratrol seems to be a promising antioxidant that could potentially have many health benefits, although the research is just beginning. I would keep an eye for new research arising from this supplement because new research is coming out constantly showing it's effectiveness. http://www.articlesbase.com/anti-aging-articles/a-brief-overview-of-resveratrol-supplements-1076487.html |
