Although we often neglect it or conceal it, the brow is an important part of the face. It frames the eyes and is used by many people in judging your age. Therefore, this is an extremely important part of the face to focus on to make sure you keep your youthful appearance. The good news is that many options exist for keeping your brow looking its best.
Noninvasive Options
The place to start considering your options for removing wrinkles in your forehead are the noninvasive ones. Noninvasive treatments often provide good results with no surgery and little recovery time. The Thermage Thermalift is a good option for those who have wrinkles in the deep layers of the skin. Thermalift works by applying deep heating to the dermis using infrared waves. This causes some skin damage, but, like laser skin resurfacing, it stimulates the skin to regenerate itself with increased collagen production. The result is the removal of wrinkles, but there is much less discomfort than laser skin resurfacing or any kind of peel.
For people whose wrinkles are caused by the habitual action of muscles, Botox cosmetic works wonders on the brow. Deep wrinkle lines can be dramatically reduced with Botox injections, and the best part is that the muscles learn their new positions, so that the treatments have longer and longer-lasting results that eventually may make treatment unnecessary.
Surgical Options
Unfortunately, though, noninvasive treatments can only do so much. For the rectification of many wrinkles, a surgical browlift is necessary. However, there are many different variations on the procedure, which are suited for different types of patients. The three most important variations on the procedure are:
· The Trichophytic Browlift
· The Temporal Lift
· The Endoscopic Browlift
The Trichophytic Browlift
The trichophytic or "hairline" browlift involves an incision that runs along the hairline for the entire length of the forehead. The incision is made in a zigzag fashion along the hairline to keep it concealed as much as possible. Once the incision is made, skin and muscles are excised and the brow is tightened. The hairline is not elevated, although the brows are. This procedure is not recommended for men who have a family history of pattern baldness.
The Temporal Browlift
In the temporal lift, small incisions are made in the temple region of the forehead and scalp, with as much as possible concealed in the hairline. In this procedure, the brows are tightened by pulling them up toward the hairline on either side of the face, with excess skin and muscle being removed. The advantage of this procedure is that it requires only small incisions and the removal of very little skin. The disadvantage is that it can sometimes have a shorter duration than other procedures, and it also only lifts the sides of the brows and not the middle of the brow.
The Endoscopic Browlift
In the endoscopic browlift, a few small incisions are made behind the hairline. Fiber-optic cameras are used to guide microsurgery instruments that can pull and cut muscles and other tissue that is responsible for the wrinkles. This procedure is ideal for those who do not need to have excess skin removed as its results are as long-lasting as traditional browlift techniques, but leaves only very small scars.
